Online Reporting

Online Reporting provides a convenient way to report incidents of crime to Waterloo Regional Police. Online Reporting has been available since October 2012 and includes non-emergency circumstances involving property under the value of $5000 such as damage to or theft from vehicles (excluding collisions), other thefts, lost property, and mischief or damage to property. When incidents are reported to police it provides an opportunity for WRPS to analyze the gathered information and gain a better understanding of where crime is occurring.

This online service is gaining in use due to the convenience of accessing it 24 hours a day, the ability to use it from any computer, and having a copy of the completed police report returned directly to the user’s inbox. As shown in the chart below, in 2014 there were 1,485 incidents reported to WRPS online, representing a 17% increase from 2013. Thefts Under $5000 account for about two thirds of the online reports, but the most significant change in volume was with Property Damage calls, which increased by 37.4%.
